The aim of the subcommittees is to promote and advance continuing education within their neurological specialties. Members of the ENS are cordially invited to attend one or more of these Subcommittee Meetings taking place at the Prague Convention Centre during the 22nd ENS Meeting in Prague. In this way a member plays a role in contributing to the scientific programme of the ENS’ annual meetings, and to promote the growth and excellence of a subspecialty. It’s a perfect place to exchange ideas and to network with other participants. The respective Subcommittee, its coordinator, day and time of convening, as well as location, is given below in the Overview of the Subcommittee Announcements. We are looking forward to seeing you at these meetings!

The European Association of Young Neurologists and Trainees (EAYNT), an independent organisation representing young European neurologists, will arrange several exciting programmes in collaboration with the European Neurological Society during their Prague Meeting, 9-12 June 2012.
EAYNT Booth in the Exhibition Area
Last year was the first occasion for the EAYNT to be present with a booth in the industry exhibition hall of the ENS congress, and this is planned for this year as well. We shall be available for young neurologist to inform them about teaching courses, grants and fellowships in Europe. There will also be an opportunity to join the EAYNT, participate in an interesting quiz, followed by a lottery, where participants will have the chance to win a reflex hammer, a T-shirt or an EAYNT travel grant!
‘Clinical Neurology in Transition’: EAYNT Special Session on Sunday, 10 June, 12.00-13.00.
Chairpersons: E.T. Varga (Budapest, HU) and K. Róna-Vöros (Szeged, HU)
- Make the best of technology: How IT/gadgets have improved clinical practice. H. Cock (London, UK)
- Seeing the disease in the person or seeing the person with the disease. A. Siva (Istanbul, TR)
- Neurophysiology training in Europe: Different concepts and training programmes. E.T. Varga (Dianalund, DK)
Young Doctors Hospital Visit and Social Event on Sunday, 10 June 2012
In order to have a better idea of the everyday work of Czech neurologists and to establish closer connections with local colleagues, the EAYNT organises hospital visit to the Department of Neurology at the 1st Faculty of Medicine, Charles University of Prague, by the kind invitation of ENS Executive Committee member Professor Evžen Růžička. Local neurology resident Dr. Pavlína Zborníková and her colleagues will not only give an overview on residency training in the Czech Republic, but also present recent clinical and scientific highlights from the Department. Moreover, they will explain the management of acute neurological disorders at their hospital, and guide visitors through its well-reputed movement disorders clinic. In order to promote the development of personal connections between neurologists throughout Europe, we shall arrange a social event after the Special Session, which will take place at a traditional Czech restaurant. Further information available at www.eaynt.org. Registration for the hospital visit and the social event will be required via the homepage to ensure a smooth conduct. Since places will be allocated on a first come first served basis, early registration is highly recommended. The hospital visit will be free of charge; expenses in the restaurant will have to be covered individually by the participants.
Special Session ENS – EAYNT: Translational Neurology: Emerging Career Prospects for Junior Neurologists on Monday, 11 June 2012, 12.30 – 13.30
Translational medicine is a rapidly emerging discipline focused on bridging technologies and discoveries in the laboratory with clinical research and practice. A large number of recent developments show the growing influence of translational medicine across academia and industry. Successful translational approaches need individuals with the capacity to envisage the whole process from “bench-to-bedside”. This workshop aims at illustrating the attractiveness of translational neurology as a career prospect for junior neurologists. Based on their own expertise, the speakers will highlight potential avenues for junior colleagues in the field of sleep medicine, autonomic nervous system disorders, stroke and CNS infections.
Chairs: C. Bassetti (Bern, CH) and G. Stoll (Würzburg, DE)
- Sleep disorders - C. Bassetti (Bern, CH)
- Autonomic nervous system -W. Struhal (Linz, AT)
- Cerebrovascular disorders - G. Stoll (Würzburg, DE)
- CNS infections - J. Sellner (Vienna, AT)
To see updates on the above events, and to become a member of the EAYNT, please visit our website at www.eaynt.org.
